These rules apply to everything people post in Popverdict — questions, answers, appeals, reasons, discussion posts, reactions, chamber names, profiles and messages — in public and inside Groups and Parliaments. They form part of the Terms of Use.
1. Violence and threats
Do not threaten, incite or glorify violence against anyone, whether an individual or a group.
Allowed: "Should the city ban fireworks on New Year's Eve?"
Not allowed: any question, answer or message that threatens a person or calls for harm.
2. Hate against a group
Do not attack people because of their ethnic origin, nationality, religion or belief, disability, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or age, including by dressing the attack up as a question.
Allowed: "Which religion makes the strongest case for the existence of God?"
Not allowed: a question whose only purpose is to degrade a group, such as asking whether it should be driven out.
3. Harassment and pile-ons
Do not target a person repeatedly, organise others against them, or get around a block to reach them.
4. Private people and private information
Do not make a vote about a named person who is not a public figure, and do not post anyone's address, phone number or other private details.
5. Child safety
Sexual content involving minors is removed at once, the account is closed, and we report it to the authorities.
6. Sexual content
Do not post explicit sexual content. Our audience includes people aged 16 and 17.
7. Self-harm and suicide
Do not encourage or instruct self-harm or suicide. If you are struggling, please contact local emergency services or a crisis line in your country.
8. Terrorism and violent extremism
Do not post content that supports, promotes or recruits for terrorist or violent extremist organisations.
9. Illegal content and other people's rights
Do not post content that infringes copyright or trade marks, defames anyone, commits fraud or offers illegal goods or services.
10. Manipulating votes
Do not use extra accounts, other people's accounts, scripts or bought votes, and do not organise fake voting.
11. Spam, scams and malicious links
Do not post advertising, phishing, malware or scams.
12. Impersonation
Do not pretend to be another person or organisation. Parody is allowed when it is clearly labelled as parody.
What is allowed
Opinions you think are wrong. Religion, politics, nationality and identity are all allowed as subjects; Popverdict exists for the arguments people really have. A question that a vote cannot settle gets a note on its result, not a deletion.
Things we do that are not penalties
Merging duplicate answers, adding a note to a result, and the order of the deck are part of how Popverdict works. They say nothing about whether you broke a rule.
How to report
Use Report on any vote, answer or profile, or the ⋯ in a conversation. Without an account, write to team@popverdict.com with the link and what is wrong. For content you believe is illegal, please include why and your contact details (Terms of Use, clause 9.6). We confirm receipt. In an emergency, call your local emergency services.
What happens after a report
A person reads every report; we aim to look at each one within a day. When three different people report the same vote or answer, it is hidden as a precaution until a person has decided, and the author is told. The author and the person who reported are both told the outcome.
What happens when a rule is broken
For most first breaches we remove the Content and warn you. If it happens again, we limit a feature for 7 days, then suspend the account for 30 days, then close it. Some breaches lead to immediate closure (Terms of Use, clause 11.3). You can ask for a review of any decision within six months (Terms of Use, clause 10).
Blocking
You can block anyone from their profile or from a conversation. A blocked person can no longer message you and is not told that you blocked them.
